Design Engineer – SOLIDWORKS & Sheet Metal

The role

K-Display is seeking a hands-on Design Engineer to turn product requirements, sketches, and customer files into accurate, production-ready SOLIDWORKS models, drawings, bills of materials, flat patterns, and nesting data. You will work closely with fabrication and other project stakeholders to resolve manufacturability issues, control revisions, and help move custom sheet-metal products from concept or customer file through production.

What you will do

• Create and revise parametric SOLIDWORKS parts and assemblies from sketches, specifications, existing drawings, and customer CAD.
• Produce clear manufacturing drawings with the dimensions, materials, tolerances, fastening and assembly information, notes, and views needed to build and inspect the work.
• Create and maintain bills of materials, part identifiers, drawing notes, and model-to-drawing revision alignment.
• Develop sheet-metal parts, flat patterns, bend documentation, and clean production exports such as DXF files.
• Prepare and review CAD/CAM nests using the correct material, thickness, quantities, stock or remnants, machine, and cutting process.
• Check grain and orientation constraints, allowed rotations or mirroring, part and edge clearances, geometry, cutting parameters, toolpaths, and machine-ready output before release.
• Balance material utilization with reliable cutting and part quality; revise layouts when machine or handling constraints matter more than maximum yield.
• Partner with fabrication, welding, finishing, assembly, estimating, and project stakeholders to solve fit, fabrication, or release problems.
• Incorporate shop feedback into controlled model and drawing revisions to reduce repeat production issues.
• Review your own work for completeness and accuracy before releasing it to production.

What you bring

• Demonstrated SOLIDWORKS experience creating parts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings in a professional, production, school, or substantial project setting.
• Practical understanding of sheet-metal design, flat patterns, bend information, and production drawing release.
• Experience with CAD/CAM nesting or comparable CNC-production preparation, including checking material, thickness, quantity, orientation, and machine constraints.
• Ability to read and reconcile specifications, sketches, models, and drawings, and to convert incomplete information into clear questions before release.
• Experience creating or maintaining bills of materials, part information, and revisions.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing methods relevant to sheet-metal fabrication.
• Strong attention to detail, spatial reasoning, applied math, problem solving, communication, and deadline management.
• An associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in drafting, mechanical design, engineering technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred, not required

• Experience designing enclosures, cabinets, brackets, frames, displays, housings, or other fabricated sheet-metal assemblies.
• Experience with cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Experience supporting laser cutting, CNC punching, press-brake forming, welding, finishing, or assembly.
• Experience with a production nesting/CAM platform and transferable knowledge of material, machine, toolpath, remnant, and utilization constraints.
• A current SOLIDWORKS certification such as CSWP, SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal Professional, or SOLIDWORKS Drawing Tools Professional.
