The role
K-Display is hiring an experienced spot welder for our fabrication team in Chicago. You will set up and run spot welding equipment to join sheet metal parts to blueprints, work orders, and quality standards, and produce consistent welds across a range of materials in a custom fabrication shop. This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor.

We make sheet metal parts and assemblies for point-of-purchase and retail display, along with other custom fabrication work. Our 45,000 square foot facility in Chicago covers laser cutting, CNC punching, stamping, forming, welding, powder coating, and assembly under one roof.
What you will do
- Set up and operate spot welding machines to join sheet metal parts in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanneal.
- Read blueprints, drawings, job travelers, and specifications to determine weld locations, sequences, and requirements.
- Select electrode tips, settings, and parameters for each material, thickness, and joint.
- Run test welds, check nugget size, pull strength, and appearance, and adjust before production.
- Spot weld production parts on small custom jobs and higher-volume runs.
- MIG weld assemblies as needed.
- Inspect welded assemblies for defects, consistency, and tolerance, and rework or flag issues.
- Maintain welding equipment, perform basic maintenance, and keep a clean, safe work area under all welding safety protocols.
- Work with the forming, assembly, and quality teams to keep production moving.
- Record production data, time, and materials used.
What you bring
- Experience spot welding sheet metal in a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
- Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
- Attention to weld quality and repeatability.
- Knowledge of welding safety practices, including PPE and ventilation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, handle materials, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic on a team.
Preferred, not required
- Experience with LORS programmable spot welders or similar equipment.
- MIG welding experience.
- Setup and troubleshooting on welding machines.
- Familiarity with ERP systems for job tracking and production reporting.
- Experience with the gauges common in custom sheet metal, 22 ga to 7 ga.
